Animal Cruelty

Intentionally killing a wild bird. Under U.S. law this can constitute animal cruelty under state statutes and may violate the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) (which prohibits taking/possessing/killing many migratory bird species without a permit).

Situation:

"Cricket admits on-screen that he "got into a skirmish with a stray chocolate lab" and that the dog is now "very paralyzed." This is an on-record admission of intentionally injuring a dog."

Implicated: Cricket

Arson

Intentionally setting fire to a building or structure (arson) or otherwise willfully destroying property by fire. Under U.S. law arson is a felony in most jurisdictions.

Situation:

"Charlie admits he painted over the Nazi-associated dog painting earlier and a character states the painting was burned in the episode (lines like "I'm going to burn this painting" followed by "Well, actually he did. Burn, baby, burn."). The transcript indicates the painting is deliberately destroyed by burning."

Implicated: Charlie Kelly

Unlawful release of animals

Releasing or removing animals from a municipal/contracted animal control facility or shelter without authorization can constitute criminal mischief, theft of animals, or related offenses under U.S. law.

Situation:

"At the animal facility/pound sequence the group (the main gang) encourages and facilitates the dogs leaving the cages — repeatedly telling them "Go and be free" and opening cages — i.e., they release the dogs from the facility without authorization."
